We’ve all had that neighbour, an overtly friendly elderly person that goes out of their way for a chat over the fence. For us it’s Elsie. She also happens to have one hell of a Greengage tree that overhangs our boundary fence. This year, before the kids got to the fruit, I suggested to Elsie that I’d love to pick them all and make a beer from them. Elsie agreed and the resulting delight is Claude.
Greengages you ask? They’re a form of plum known for their smooth-textured, pale green flesh & are considered to be among the finest dessert plums. Claude represents the best of the fruit supported exceptionally by our Estate blonde ale base. Bold aromas of grape skins, guava & summer plum, along with a mild acetic note encourage an approachable yeast character that is both complex and enjoyable.
An unmistakable ripe plum/apricot flavour transgresses the entire palate whilst complimenting the underlying subtlety of the base blonde ale. The result is an over the top fruity wild ale, worthy of pure summer enjoyment of a sour beer.
We’d recommend Claude is enjoyed post mains, with a fruit dessert & ice cream or a cheese platter for exceptional flavour enjoyment.
