Van Dieman Brewing

Van Dieman Brewing, began as a leap of faith by founder Will Tatchell in 2007.

After completing university, Will headed to the United Kingdom to immerse himself in the British brewing industry.  He returned home a few years later armed with a comprehensive skill set, deep knowledge & invaluable experience and set about establishing Van Dieman Brewing.

The brewery is located just outside the historic northern Tasmanian town of Evandale, and opened in April, 2009, after 2 years of approvals, building work and installation of the equipment. We're surrounded by 100 year old English oak trees on the family farm and rolling paddocks that produce beef, lambs and the occasional beer-fed pork.

Today Van Dieman brewing produces 4 core beers: Ragged Jack - Pale Ale, Jacobs Ladder – Amber Ale, Stacks Bluff – Oatmeal Stout & White Hills – White Ale, along with an assortment of limited release & seasonal variants. In addition to the on-farm spring water we use to brew with, a hop field has been established allowing us to hand harvest a crop each year for addition to a seasonal Harvest Ale. 

Over the course of the next 12 months we plan on planting a barley crop adjacent to the brewery, to malt our own grains, continue to develop and add to our barrel-ageing program and sustainably grow the business into the future, focusing on maintaining our high quality standards and level of consistency we strive towards.
